The wind this morning was more East than North, which wasn't helpful; there were a few minutes when it was in the right direction, but the sail I made needed more sail area to be effective.However, the current was in the right direction and I made the trip in about 1 hour 20 minutes, including a lot of time spent drifting.
Well, in my continued curiosity abt a life so much richer and outdoors than mine, I looked up Lesner Bridge on Google and saw a map. I nvr really cd figure out where Lynnhaven River is though. Did you sail eastward above a body of land that has Long Creek written over it, or to the other side of same where it says Broad Bay? I can't imagine doing that at all, I'm nearly hydrophobic. Did you see any interesting wildlife along the way? What time of day was it? Did you get very wet? Was it cold? And I bet if you'd had a pirate along it would have gone much more smoothly.
ReplyDeleteFrom Lesner Bridge, go south-southeast along the channel marked Keeling Drain to Lynnhaven Bay. At the south end of the bay there's Brown Cove, and there's also a jog southwest, then south, that continues down to Virginia Beach Boulevard. That's the Lynnhaven River, although my place isn't quite as far as the Boulevard.
ReplyDeleteI got on the water at about 9:25am and finished at 10:50. Saw pelicans, egrets, seagulls, and fishermen, but no dolphins, ospreys, eagles, or bikini babes. It was sunny, no much wind, no waves except from boat wakes, and the only water I got on me was a bit dripping from the paddle. Aaarrrrr....
Pah! It's not a proper sailing venture unless you have to battle a typhoon or repel boarders!
