Marines

Supposedly overheard by  pilot flying from Europe to Dubai:
Iranian Air Defense Site: "Unknown Aircraft, you are in Iranian airspace. Identify yourself."
Aircraft: "This is a United States aircraft. I am in Iraqi airspace."
Air Defense Site: "You are in Iranian airspace. If you do not depart our airspace, we will launch
interceptor aircraft."
Aircraft: "This is a United States Marine Corps FA-18 fighter. Send them up. I'll wait."

That's like the 'aircraft carrier/lighthouse' one.

Or:

An American Airlines pilot landed in Frankfurt. Unfamiliar airport taxiway, so he was checking his map when the notoriously particular and irrasible Frankfurt ATC came on the line.

"AAC 122, why are you stopped? Are you lost? Do you not know your way around?"

The pilot, somewhat peeved with the tone, replied:

"Well, I've only been to Frankfurt once. It was in 1944 and I didn't land."

BTW - The quote you have under 'about me' - who said it?

I was old, and now I am older. I have been to the ends of the earth. I have broken the enemy line with press of canvas and storm of shot. I have kissed a fey woman. I have been a stone.
That's original to me.
