Where were you when wood became a felony? It's amazing what our government does when no one's looking. I've said before: our elected officials are like three year olds. If you don't keep an eye on them every minute, they will get into trouble.

I couldn't sit through his interminable rambling, but I wonder if the labelling requirement, much like matress labelling, applies simply at time of sale? If so, no fears of them coming to your house looking for 'illegal wood'.

Considering the policy at the border you have that prohibits me bringing Florida Oranges back into the US (have had them confiscated on the way to ECC) and that prohibits me from bringing apricot or peach jam made from US fruit back into the US without a permit from the Dept. of Agriculture, this seems entirely in line and reasonable.

The US concern with food safety, with agroproduct safety, with personal security, and with the vague possibility that someone might bring something into the country that wasn't made in the USA (darn them!) has led to a large raft of ridiculous prohibitions the likes of which have never been seen before.

I assume all you USAians feel much safer now with all of your security theater, just like we Canadians do for having a Gun Registry to protect us from violent crime (how is never really clear) and with all of our pandemic defense (which seems to be driven by those investing in the stocks of the manufacturers of hand sanitizer).

A certain Bugbear I know suggested that the world is not made of padded and rounded corners and we should not try to make it so. By the standards of most of the populace in both countries, he is a dangerous radical who probably needs to visit a Re-Ned-ucation Camp (a la the Simpsons) to be 'cured' of his 'dangerous thinking'.

We're much safer with Big Brother and Big Sister looking over our shoulders. We all know the average citizen hasn't the wit to operate a car without a 50 page manual on basic, common sense security instructions nor have they the ability to raise their own children nor to make decisions like adults.

Only the government can truly make us safe, happy, and enmeshed in a warm, fuzzy world without any dangerous sharp corners. And while they are at it, they can protect our jobs from those dangerously cheap capitalists in foreign countries.

To say otherwise would be positively un-American! What are you, some kind of Commie?!

No, a Commie would be voting in favor of bigger government. I'm a dangerous ultra-right-wing-extremist living in Montana with my pet wolf, my arsenal of heavy weapons, and a twenty year supply of MREs. I'm also in favor of global warming (anthropogenic or any other way I can get it) because Montana is waaaay too cold.

I have to say, seeing some of the people in this world (and especially some of the ones in college) makes me think that while government ain't all it's cracked up to be, neither are individuals. Obviously, i should be the monarch running things. Absolutely.

You know, J, your anonymous posting still doesn't make you anonymous in this context.

But I'm with you on the 'government isn't great' and 'individuals aren't great'.... sometimes all your options would have made Hobson laugh out loud.
