'hard hearted' could simply be a short form for 'of a disposition unlikely to be affected by emotive stimuli' and 'rough day' could simply replace 'a day which was exhausting, uncomfortable, or physically damaging'.

In both cases, it is not coincidental that there are real world metaphors (stone, sandpaper) chosen for experience (unyielding/unchangeable, rough/painful). But that could be far less some brain pathway issue than simply phsyical analogy.; June 26, 2010 at 11:31 PM
