Examen

Pastor Randy touched on the Examen of St Ignatius of Loyola, and mentioned a number of questions which we might ask ourselves during a daily examination. Two of them in particular stood out for me:
  • What, in the past 24 hours, am I most grateful for?
  • When, in the past 24 hours, were you cooperating with God?
I'll have to add "not counting your wife" to the first, as otherwise it would get monotonously predictable; but with that added, it's a good question to answer daily.

With respect to the second question shouldn't you add the disclaimer, not counting cooperating with your wife?

So, you are most grateful for 'not counting your wife'?

Bugbear: no, because they're not always the same.
Lux: You must've meant "what are you most grateful for, not counting your wife", and in the last 24 hours, I'd say it's a house and heat. One friend is out of work and has just found out that the condo she's renting is going to be sold, so she has to find a new place to live. Another friend got laid off the day after closing on her house.

Yeah, life is tough for a lot of people right now.

I suspect most of us will never understand that our lack of vigilance on our elected leaders and our financial managers was contributory to our situation.

If the way the banks are behaving right now is any indication, they either don't think they did anything wrong or are not capable of recognizing their part in the fiasco.
