I emailed this to a friend, who said something to the effect of "you have to admire their independence from societal pressure." I suspect, however, that these people were not consciously independent, just totally oblivious.

I heard a song 'I fell in love with a Walmart greeter' and it was pretty hilarious (in the Walmart vein).

You know you don't just see people like this at Walmart. When I was a kid we used to have a cross-dresser that attended our church. He'd show up with wearing suit & tie, with women's shoes and nylons. He was quite pleasant fellow but he went off the deep end and never looked back after his wife died.
