Twenty-four hours to go

Our friend should be released at this time tomorrow. Haven't heard anything from her since Wednesday, though. Hopefully that's because she sees the light at the end of the tunnel and doesn't feel a need to call. If she was hurt or if anything had happened, surely she would have called? This is worse than staying up waiting for your teenager to get back from a late night out.

Update: She called, everything's okay. Seventeen hours.

Well, in my experience, being a "short-timer" in any transition is a busy-ness all its own. Maybe she's seeing that light at the end of the tunnel in the midst of exit interviews and small preparations, be they physical or mental. Maybe there are changes in her schedule or her environment. Maybe she's just preoccupied with these next few hours and will call you right when the corner is about to be turned.

There's been a puffy white snowfall here in northern Utah just overnight. Perhaps figuring out how to stay in Park City after all would be a good Plan A. On the other hand, the streets were clear on the same afternoon a few days ago when this happened. Her journey down from Park City into the Salt Lake valley, while being cautious and careful, could be a surprisingly successful passage from one chapter of her life into another.
